Happy Paws Tribe began with a question that does not have an easy answer:

How can we make sure the animals we love remain safe, loved and cared for, whatever the future brings?

For Happy Paws Tribe, the answer starts before help is ever needed. It means creating connections between animals, their families and people willing to be part of their lives.

It means finding ways for people to support one another when circumstances become difficult. And, in time, it means exploring ways to provide greater financial security for an animal's future care. The idea is simple:

The responsibility we take on when we love an animal should not have to depend on one person being able to carry it alone forever.

When we bring an animal into our lives, we do it hoping to be there for their whole life. But none of us can know what the future has in store.

We may worry about who would care for them if something happened to us. Whether there would be someone willing to take responsibility for them. Whether that person would understand who they are, what they need, and just how deeply they are loved.

Sometimes those questions can even make us hesitate to adopt at all, not because we have less love to give, but because we take the commitment seriously.

And sometimes the challenge is much more immediate. An unexpected veterinary bill or a difficult period in life can suddenly make caring for an animal harder than it should be.

Happy Paws Tribe wants to create more security around both: someone to turn to and somewhere to turn for help.

Happy Paws Tribe wants to create connections between animals, their families, and people willing to become part of their lives as godparents.

The idea is to build those relationships before they are ever needed. To give animals the chance to know and trust the person who may one day need to step in, and to give their families the reassurance of knowing that someone has made a commitment to look out for them.

Being a godparent does not necessarily mean promising to take an animal into your own home. It means taking responsibility for making sure they continue to be safe, loved and cared for, whatever the future brings.

Somewhere to turn to for help:

Sometimes keeping an animal safe and cared for isn't about finding another person. It's about getting through a difficult moment.

An unexpected operation, treatment or other necessary care can put someone in a position where they simply cannot manage the cost alone.

This is not something Happy Paws Tribe can offer yet. It is something we hope to build.

The vision is to find a way for people to help one another through moments like these, so that a temporary financial difficulty does not have to threaten the bond between an animal and the person who loves them.

In time, that vision could go further: finding ways for people to provide financially for their own animals' future care and, when those funds are no longer needed, allowing that support to continue on to help another animal.

Happy Paws Tribe is at the very beginning.

Turning this vision into something real will take the right people, knowledge, safeguards and support.

What we hope to make possible

More animals growing old surrounded by love.

More people feeling able to open their homes to an animal without being afraid of what the future might bring.

Fewer animals losing their families because the right support wasn't there when it was needed.

And a community where the love and care we create for our own animals can reach a little further and help someone else's too.

Because loving them for life should also mean planning for the moments when we might need someone else to help us keep that promise.
